Content Management Systems

The first question we are often asked is what is a Content Management System? It's a piece of online software that allows you to manage and update your web site without using a web design company.

You simply enter your login details, which are a username and password and then you're free to edit your pages or add any additional functionality using a simple WYSIWYG editor. Skill wise, it's easier than editing a simple Word Document.

If training is required, we are able to offer skill building sessions so you can start adding content straight away. Content is what the Internet is ALL about - content sells your business and is what people actually want to read. If you want to maximise the potential of your web site, it is vital to add new content on a regular basis.

We use a range of CMS Software, all of which are Open Source. We feel that Open Source offers the best solution for small to medium size businesses compared to proprietary web company solutions.

WordPress

WordPress is one of the most common blog tools currently in extensive use. WordPress combines a host of options/features with simplicity of use. You might be surprised to find that WordPress can be used as more than just a simple blogging tool. The vast number of free plug-ins available for WordPress is one of its best features. It is very simple to add to your website videos, contact forms, galleries, calendars etc. - you name it, there's usually a plug-in for it.

Joomla!

Joomla! is a slightly more advanced CMS software than WordPress. Joomla! is judged to be the most popular CMS software on the Internet - used on thousands of sites, i.e. The United Nations, Outdoor Photographer and Harvard University.

With over 100,000 registered users, 1600+ extensions for Joomla! and over 60,000 web sites powered by Joomla!, this option is certainly a good choice as a CMS. Joomla! can easily deal with large amounts of traffic and is used by both small and large organisations worldwide.

Drupal

Drupal perhaps offers the greatest flexibility to a site and is many web developers favourite CMS - it is perhaps slightly more complicated but still easy to use - Drupal has been used by organisations like NASA, MTV, Warner Bros and Ubuntu.
